The European Betting and Gaming Association (EGBA) has released its 2024 Annual Sustainability Report. It shows that its member operators contributed €3.8 billion ($4.45 billion) to the European economy this year.
EGBA currently has 321 online gambling licenses for companies in 21 European countries. Many of its members are some of the most important operators in Europe. The latest update shows the total contributions of these member companies to the EU market in 2024.
Key statistics
EGBA reported a total tax revenue of €3.8 billion for the year. They also raised €148.9 million for gambling research, education, and treatment initiatives. These RET contributions from EGBA’s member operators show a 143% increase from last year. In 2023, they donated €49 million.
The report shows that 69% of all members’ customers are using the safety tool. This equals 26.7 million customers. In 2024, over 100 million messages about customer safety were shared. Now, 89% of employees are trained in safer gambling. Additionally, 42% to 46% of personalized messages had a positive effect on players with high-risk behaviors.
The EGBA’s member companies now have 38.6 million customers. This is an increase from 32.5 million at the end of 2023. Of that 38.6 million, 75% remain male, with 58% of players being aged between 18-35 years.
Sustainable practices & contributions
During the year, a record 26.7 million customers used safety tools, according to the association. This shows a 28% increase from last year. Most customers (65%) chose to set deposit limits for self-protection. This was followed by self-exclusion at 12% and time limits at 11%.
About age groups, the younger players used safety tools the most. Twenty-one percent of users were 18-25 years old. Twenty-eight percent were 26-35 years old. Thirty percent were 36-50 years old.
Safety messages sent to customers grew throughout the year. In 2024, EGBA members sent a record 100 million messages. This is a 64% increase from 2023.
