Hong Kong Racing Turnover Grows 3%, Hits HK$138.85 Billion

Hong Kong, 19 July 2025 – The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) has reported a 3% year-on-year increase in total racing turnover, reaching HK$138.85bn ($17.6bn) for the 2024/25 season. This marks a return to growth following a 4.5% decline the previous year.

The boost in numbers was thanks to exciting jackpot prizes, bigger race lineups, and more global fans joining in through international betting and the popular World Pool. Major racedays like the Chinese New Year Raceday broke records, helping international betting turnover climb by over 10%, hitting HK$31.76 billion.

Racecourse crowds also returned in big numbers — more than 1.7 million people visited this season. A huge reason for this was the 110% jump in visitors from Mainland China. Big events like the BMW Hong Kong Derby and FWD Champions Day each saw over 9,000 tourists enjoying the thrill of live racing.

Star Horses Steal the Show

Two horses made headlines this year. Romantic Warrior became the first horse trained in Hong Kong to win Group 1 races in four different countries — a massive achievement. Meanwhile, Voyage Bubble pulled off something special by winning the Triple Crown, something that hasn’t been done in 31 years.

Speaking about the season, HKJC CEO Mr. Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges said:

“It’s been an amazing year. The performances from our top horses have wowed fans, not just here but around the world. Thanks to strong support from the HKSAR government, especially after Chief Executive John Lee’s policy update, we’ve welcomed more tourists than ever. People are coming to Hong Kong to experience our racing up close — and they love it.”

He added that these achievements are helping Hong Kong racing shine on the world stage, while also giving tourism a boost and showing Hong Kong’s role as a bridge between East and West.

What’s Next for HKJC

Looking ahead, the Club plans to increase Group 1 prize money to HK$208 million for the 2025/26 season — making races even more exciting for owners and fans. HKJC also has plans to start hosting races at the Conghua Racecourse in October 2026, expanding its reach into the Greater Bay Area.

With a season full of big wins, packed stands, and global attention, the Hong Kong Jockey Club is showing that horse racing in Hong Kong is stronger than ever.
